How to bounce back from money-saving pitfalls

The journey to financial freedom isn’t always a smooth one. If you think of learning how to ride a bike, sometimes you fall, and sometimes you wobbly move forward. But before mastering the skill, finding your balance is key to understanding. So if you lose, brush the dust off your knees, get back up and pedal forward! Don’t let it discourage you and make you quit.

Gain back your momentum

It’s easier to balance when you gain momentum. In saving, it also gets easier once you’ve formed the habit. If you make mistakes, say, constantly getting lured in by budol sales or getting confused with your wants and needs, reel yourself back to gain back good money habits. Remember the triggers every time you encounter these problems, and remind yourself that you can bring back the balance when you work.

Get lean and mean it

So you’ve overspent your monthly budget because you purchased more than what you earned. Instead of charging on your card again, charge all these to experience — a learning experience! Find ways to get lean by trying to set aside some money. Do you need to discontinue a monthly service you barely use? Say, a gym membership? Or a music service? Do you need a side hustle to get back on track? Find no shame in correcting your mistakes. When you put your mind to it, you can make better choices regarding your spending.

Refocus and remember your goals

It’s easy to get lost in the spending cycle when you forget your goals. Avoid the tilt (where you’ve lost control and can’t find the breaks) by recognizing your intentions and fixing your gaze right back on what you want to achieve financially. This will help you regain balance in the middle of a tricky trail.

Whatever saving problems you encounter, don’t let it make you go into inaction. Mistakes and setbacks are good tools to teach you how to improve yourself. Fail forward and come back better when it comes to saving your money.

Know that there’s always room to bounce back when you don’t let setbacks get the better of U.
